THE LOWDOWN

MONACO

Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter, Monaco have been very entertaining to watch so far this season with their 23 matches in the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign consisting of 78 goals. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top three and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots.

The Monagasque come into this one on the back of a thrilling 3-2 victory over Lens in their most recent outing, last weekend. Folarin Balogun opened the scoring after 19 minutes in that match before a Brice Samba own goal made it two on the half-hour mark. Elye Wahi and Wesley Said pulled it back to 2-2 but Takumi Minamino managed a 92nd minute winner.

PSG

Luis Enrique has implemented the foundations of his complex and sophisticated, easy on the eye style of football but Paris Saint-Germain but the defending champions and league leaders most definitely have a much higher ceiling to reach than the level they are currently playing at, albeit that level is still quite strong at the moment.

The Parisiens were held to a 1-1 draw by Stade Rennais at Parc des Princes last week and they were fortunate to pinch that point. Amine Gouiri gave Rennes a 33rd minute lead before Goncalo Ramos scored a 97th minute penalty to extend PSG’s current unbeaten run of form to 19 matches across all competitions.

THE PREDICTION

As mentioned, Monaco have had plenty of goals coming in their games so far this season. They now welcome a PSG team that are clearly talented and heading in a positive direction but they remain susceptible at the back, especially with injuries to key defenders such as Milan Skriniar, Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe. PSG remain the overwhelming favourites but we could get quite a fun and entertaining contest at Stade Louis II.

TIP: PSG TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
