How to watch online: UK – Cannot be streamed / US – Disney+

Key stats

  • Finland have won the last six international matches between these teams. Malta’s only victory in their previous eight encounters was a 2-0 home win in February 1988 (friendly tournament).
  • Finland have won their last two World Cup qualifying matches at home.
  • Malta have won only one of their last 30 World Cup qualifying matches (D5 L24). They are without a win in their last 12 (D3 L9).

Finland vs Malta prediction

Finland come into this one on the back of a 4-0 hammering at the hands of the Netherlands in their most recent outing at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam. The Finnish have picked up three wins and a draw in their seven qualifiers as they seek to finish with a flourish.

Malta had suggested an improvement with the aid of the UEFA Nations League of late, but they have struggled in this qualifying campaign with just two points collected from their six matches thus far. The Maltese most recently suffered a 4-1 hammering at home to Bosnia-Herzegovina in friendly last month.

Malta will head to Helsinki believing they are now a little more proactive in the final third  but Finland remain the firm favourites for this one in the Finnish capital city.
