FC Cologne host bottom of the table Borussia Monchengladbach, the only club remaining to have lost every league game they’ve played so far this season.

FC Cologne preview: Out of form

FC Cologne are still waiting to regain the heights we saw from them on the opening weekend of the campaign when they defeated Hoffenheim in a 3-2 thriller. Since then, they’ve picked up just one point from their next three matches, drawing 1-1 with Werder Bremen and losing on the road to both Stuttgart and most recently Hamburg.

The Hamburg game was over after Cologne conceded right before half-time and then gave up a second goal less than five minutes after the restart. Whilst they fought and did pull one back in the 90th minute, it was too late to salvage anything.

Borussia Monchengladbach preview: Reset required

Borussia Monchengladbach have endured a block of fixtures to forget and after four matches, are down at the foot of the table, with four defeats. They are already four points adrift of safety and unless they want to risk getting cut off early, it’s crucial that the visitors get back on track as soon as possible, starting here.

Defensively, it’s been atrocious with 16 goals conceded, an average of exactly four per game. That includes a 5-0 thrashing in their most recent away fixture, which came at the hands of Freiburg in the Black Forest.

FC Cologne team news: Three missing for hosts

FC Cologne are without at least three players for the visit of Borussia Monchengladbach and that could be extended to four should Castro-Montes not be passed fit to play.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Schwabe; Sebulonsen, Simpson-Pusey, Lochoshvili, Mensah; Skhiri, Krauss; Maina, Moore, El Mala; Bulter

Unavailable: Ache (Injured), Dallinga (Injured), Hubers (Injured)

Questionable: Castro-Montes (Injured)

Borussia Monchengladbach team news: Honorat hammy

Borussia Monchengladbach will have to make do without Honorat, who is out with a hamstring injury and joining him on the sidelines are Castrop, Kuhn and Leopold.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Nicolas; Itakura, Leszczynski, Diks; Scally, Sander, Neuhaus, Ullrich; Bolin, Kleindienst, Hack

Unavailable Castrop (Injured), Honorat (Injured), Kuhn (Injured), Leopold (Injured)

Questionable:

Will Borussia Monchengladbach gain their first points of the season?

FC Cologne vs Borussia Monchengladbach prediction

Both these two teams have had their struggles of late. Whilst Borussia Monchengladbach’s have been more extended, FC Cologne haven’t been the same since the opening weekend and with the pressure on them being at home against the one club without a single Bundesliga point, this could prove to be a nervy affair.

One positive on each side is that both have at least managed to score goals during their respective poor runs. With the hosts finding the net at least once in all four of their games played and Gladbach scoring three last time out, it suggests that we will at least be in for a high-scoring contest. Therefore, consider backing over 2.5 goals.

FC Cologne vs Borussia Monchengladbach tip: Over 2.5 goals
