Lazio have made a surprisingly strong start to the season as the Romans now welcome newly-promoted Monza to the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.

Lazio preview: Surprisingly strong start

Under the management of former Italy boss Gennaro Gattuso, Lazio were expected to underperform again this season with their supporters warring with the club’s hierarchy but remaining supportive of the team away from the pitch and the stadium.

Despite the lack of support in the stadium, Lazio have started the campaign with four victories and a draw in their opening five matches to sit alongside Roma and defending champions Internazionale at the top-of-the-table ahead of this match day.

Monza preview: Struggling Monza

Following their promotion back to Serie A last season, Monza have started the campaign with one win, a draw and three defeats in their opening five matches, showing a competitive nature in all five games thus far.

They earned their first win just before the international break as they defeated Sassuolo by two goals to one at Stadio Brianteo in Lombardy, courtesy of a second half brace scored by Gustavo Varela.

Lazio team news: A few issues

Albert Gudmundsson suffered a shoulder injury on international duty with Iceland and now both Danilo Cataldi and Adrian Przyboek have also picked up injuries, too.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Mandas; Floriani Mussolini, Sutalo, Provstgaard, Tavares; Frattesi, Belahyane, Taylor; Cancellieri, Noslin, Zaccagni

Unavailable: Furlanetto (Injured), Pellegrini (Injured), Gudmundsson (Injured)

Questionable: Marusic (Fitness), Rovella (Injured), Cataldi (Injured), Przyboek (Injured)

Monza team news: A few issues

Monza are dealing with a few issues for this one as Matteo Pessina remains a confirmed absentee with Idrissa Toure and Jan Ziolkowski also still doubtful.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Tornqvist; Kouadio, Lucchesi, Carboni; Birindelli, Akinsanmiro, Folorunsho, Mangas; Cutrone, Robinson; Varela

Unavailable: Pessina (Injured)

Questionable: Ziolkowski (Injured), Toure (Injured)

Lazio vs Monza prediction

Prior to that aforementioned victory against Sassuolo a few weeks ago, Monza’s performances had suggested that their first three points of the campaign were just around the corner. Gattuso and his Lazio side haven’t been as good as their results would suggest, on he other hand, and yet they have found a way while Monza have struggled to be effective in both boxes – and so that trend continuing would not be a major surprise in the capital city.

Lazio vs Monza tip: Lazio to win & under 3.5 goals
