The Hill Dickinson Stadium plays host to an intriguing contest on Monday night as David Moyes’ Everton take on Michael Carrick’s Manchester United.

Everton preview: Sticky Toffees

Everton come into this one on the back of a much-needed week off having been eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round and needing to calm down after their 2-1 loss at home to AFC Bournemouth about a week and a half ago.

The Merseysiders have been generally unimpressive in terms of their performance level but do find themselves in contention for a top seven or eight finish and potential European qualification this season.

Man Utd preview: Improved United

Manchester United have been much-improved since the appointment of Michael Carrick and the Red Devils are aiming for a return to the UEFA Champions League after four victories and a draw in his opening five matches.

After four successive wins, the Red Devils put in a much more underwhelming performance against a battling West Ham United but an excellent Benjamin Sesko equaliser did earn them a late point at the London Stadium.

Everton team news: O'Brien suspended

Ireland international defender Jake O'Brien is now missing through suspension after being sent off against Bournemouth but his compatriot Seamus Coleman has returned to full fitness.

Aside from that, there are no major issues to discuss for the Evertonians with only Jack Grealish out injured, with the Englishman out for the rest of this season.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; Patterson, Tarkowski, Keane, Mykolenko; Garner, Gueye, Ndiaye, Dewsbury-Hall, George; Barry

Unavailable: O'Brien (Suspended), Grealish (Injured)

Questionable:

Man Utd team news: Sesko pushing to start

In his pre-match press conference, United boss Michael Carrick couldn't provide much of an update on either Matthijs de Ligt or Mason Mount with no timeframe given on the return of either.

As well as that, Patrick Dorgu remains sidelined and there is a bit of talk about whether or not Bryan Mbeumo could be moved to the wing with Benjamin Sesko getting a start.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Mainoo, Casemiro; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko

Unavailable: De Ligt (Injured), Dorgu (Injured), Mount (Injured)

Questionable:

Everton vs Man Utd prediction

United have played with a lot more fluency and cohesion in the final third – and they will fancy themselves to be able to create a fair bit against Everton this weekend. The hosts have thrown in some woeful performance, weirdly especially at their new stadium, too, but the big occasion does tend to suit a Moyes team under the lights and so both teams scoring seems quite a good bet for what should be a Monday evening treat.

Everton vs Man Utd tip: Both teams to score
