Denis Shapovalov was plagued by some inconsistent serving but still managed to see off Miomir Kecmanovic in four sets in the first round.

The Canadian landed 19 aces but also threw in 11 double faults in a somewhat erratic display, but his ground strokes were on point as he outclassed his Serbian opponent.

The former world number ten takes on rapidly improving 22-year-old Luca Van Assche, who claimed the scalp of 29-year-old Cameron Norrie in the first round.

Van Assche is playing with a lot of confidence right now and is currently ranked eight places above Shapovalov after an impressive year that has seen him win his first ATP title.
