Daria Snigur produced a shock in round one of Roland Garros as she came from a set down to beat Clara Tauson. However, the Ukrainian was unable to continue the momentum as she lost in the next stage to Peyton Stearns, winning just four games in total. Snigur has won two titles on the ITF circuit and she also impressed in Cluj earlier this year, making it all the way to the semi-finals.
She faces former world number two Paula Badosa. The Spaniard’s continuing struggles with injury led to her deciding not to compete in Rome or Roland Garros this year. Her last appearance was a first-round loss in Madrid to Julia Grabher. She is now ranked outside the top 100 in the world, and she’s yet to advance beyond the third-round of a WTA event in 2026.
Badosa’s fitness is always a concern, and despite her credentials, she cannot be viewed as a clear favourite to win this one. Snigur has made strides this year, and she will apply pressure at times.
