Daria Kasatkina ended the clay court season relatively strongly, with a run to the quarter-finals in Rabat followed up by a third-round appearance at Roland Garros. She did test world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the second set after a tough start, but still lost in straights. Kasatkina struggled with injury during the first part of the season, but she will now be hoping for a strong grass court season.

Her first-round opponent is Robin Montgomery. The American qualified for this event after wins over Yue Yuan and Joanna Garland. Montgomery failed to qualify for the French Open, with her best result of the year being a semi-final appearance on the ITF circuit in Oeiras. She was ranked inside the top 100 this time last year, but it has dropped to 339.

Kasatkina has made three grass court finals in her career, winning the title in Eastbourne two years ago. She is comfortable on this surface, and she’ll be a clear favourite to win this one.
