Daniel Altmaier defeated Hugo Gaston in straight sets to advance from the first-round at the Swedish Open. The German was in total control as he took the first set and opened up a 5-2 lead in the second. Altmaier was then broken when serving for the match, but he subsequently broke Gaston once more in the 12th game of that set to complete a 6-2 7-5 victory after one hour and 30 minutes. He conceded just the one break point across the entire match.
He now faces defending champion Luciano Darderi in the round-of-16. Darderi, who defeated Juan Manuel Cerundolo in last year’s final, received a bye in round one.
