We have a repeat of the Community Shield from earlier this season as Crystal Palace now welcome 100%-ers Liverpool down to Selhurst Park in Croydon this weekend.

Crystal Palace preview: Soaring Eagles

Crystal Palace come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat of West Ham United in a London derby at the London Stadium at the weekend, courtesy of goals in either half scored by Jean-Philippe Mateta and then Tyrick Mitchell.

The Eagles have started this season without a defeat in their opening nine matches across all competitions, which began by defeating Liverpool in the Community Shield on penalties in mid-August.

Liverpool preview: Winning at all costs

Since that defeat at Wembley, Liverpool have now enjoyed seven successive victories across all competitions, with that run of form extended in midweek by defeating Championship side Southampton by two goals to one at Anfield in the EFL Cup.

Even in that game against the Saints, the Reds required a late winner from Hugo Ekitike, before he was then sent off a minute or so later. Only their 2-1 win against Everton in the Merseyside Derby has been won without a late winning goal.

Crystal Palace team news: Pino and Sarr fit

In his pre-match press conference, Oliver Glasner has confirmed that Palace are able to start both Yeremy Pino and Ismaila Sarr this weekend after both endured recent injury scares.

That means that the Eagles' only confirmed absentees remain goalkeeper Walter Benitez, defenders Chadi Riad and Caleb Kporha, and midfielder Cheick Doucoure.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Wharton, Hughes, Mitchell; Sarr, Kamada; Mateta

Unavailable: Benitez (Injured), Riad (Injured), Kporha (Injured), Doucoure (Injured)

Liverpool team news: Ekitike suspended

Frustratingly for Arne Slot, Hugo Ekitike was sent off for a second yellow card against Southampton after scoring the winner and removing his shirt. The Frenchman is therefore missing through suspension for this one.

Fellow summer signing Giovanni Leoni is also now missing through injury for the Reds after suffering an ACL injury against the Saints in the cup.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Isak

Unavailable: Leoni (Injured), Ekitike (Suspended)

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool prediction

Liverpool’s performance level hasn’t been overly impressive so far this season, hence the need to win six games with late winning goals. There would therefore be a feeling that a failure to get over the line is around the corner and, up against an unbeaten Palace side that have captain Marc Guehi leading them out against the team he so nearly joined and a team that have already prevented Liverpool winning this season, it could well be a good value bet to side with the south Londoners here.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool tip: Double chance – Crystal Palace to win or draw
