THE TEAM NEWS

SURREY STARS

  • Surrey Stars maintained their unbeaten start to the defence of their Women’s Super League crown but it did not come in the manner they wanted as their clash with Southern Vipers was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
  • After two wins to begin the competition, the Stars would have been confident of another win when hosting the Vipers but their big game set to be hosted at the Oval was unfortunately washed out.
  • Surrey will now hope they can avoid another washout but with a better forecast ahead, this game should reach a conclusion and that will allow the likes of Laura Marsh and Dane van Niekerk to build on their strong start to the competition.

LOUGHBOROUGH LIGHTNING

  • Loughborough Lightning could not build on their solid win over Yorkshire Diamonds as they were outclassed by Western Storm in their last game to fall to their third defeat of the competition.
  • The Lightning struggled to contain the Storm and chasing 159 to win always felt like a tall order but the constant loss of wickets aside from a fifth-wicket partnership of 43 ensured they fell well short of their target.
  • The 40-run loss was against a very strong team but they now face another mammoth task against the reigning champions and if they are to have any chance of beating the Stars, England’s Amy Jones will need to post a big total with the bat after a decent start to the competition.

THE PREDICTION

Surrey Stars will not want to lose too much ground on table-topping Western Storm and will be eager to get back to winning ways after their washout against Southern Vipers. They host Loughborough Lightning in this one who come into this contest off a heavy defeat against the Storm and with just one win to their name in the competition so far, the unbeaten Stars can add a third win to their name to keep Storm in check at the top of the table.
