This is a really intriguing contest as Cesc Fabregas’ Como get back into action with a clash against Lazio, now coached again by the returning Maurizio Sarri this season.

Como preview: Exciting Como

After a brilliant end to last season, following their promotion from Serie B in the 2023/24 campaign, Cesc Fabregas has been heavily backed by the hierarchy at Como and the expectation will be that they challenge for European qualification in Serie A this year.

They have spent close to £100 million this summer with their star arrivals including Martin Baturina, Jesus Rodriguez and Nicolas Kuhn. As well as that trio, they have also brought in Spain captain Alvaro Morata on loan from AC Milan.

Lazio preview: Sarri is back

After falling out with the club, Maurizio Sarri is back in charge with Lazio and that could well be a good thing on the pitch for the Romans, with the former Chelsea and Napoli boss having done quite a good job in charge of Lazio during his stint at Stadio Olimpico.

Lazio have been quite quiet in the window, with their only signings involving making loanees now permanent additions, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Samuel Gigot, Nuno Tavares, Nicolo Rovella and Luca Pellegrini joining for just short of £30 million.

Como team news: Kuhn out

The aforementioned Nicolas Kuhn is unavailable due to an Achilles injury for this weekend, with fellow summer signing Jayden Addai dealing with an ankle issue.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Butez; Vojvoda, Jacobo, Kempf, Alberto Moreno; Sergi Roberto, Da Cunha; Diao, Nico Paz, Jesus Rodriguez; Douvikas

Unavailable: Dossena (Injured), Kuhn (Injured)

Questionable: Addai (Injured)

Lazio team news: Romagnoli suspended

Centre-back Alessio Romagnoli is missing through suspension for this weekend, with a few injury doubts, too, such as midfield duo Matias Vecino and Reda Belahyane.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Mandas; Marusic, Provstgaard, Mario Gila, Tavares; Guendouzi, Dele-Bashiru, Rovella; Zaccagni, Taty Castellanos, Lazzari

Unavailable: Patric (Injured), Romagnoli (Suspended)

Questionable: Gigot (Injured), Matias Vecino (Injured), Belahyane (Injured), Isaksen (Injured)

Como vs Lazio prediction

Como began their season with a 3-1 defeat of Sudtirol at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia in the first round of the Coppa Italia last week. They began to overwhelm teams, both with and without the ball, in the second-half of last season, and Cesc Fabregas will be expecting his team to get off to a fast start against a Lazio team that have to remind themselves of the slow and deliberate ‘Sarri-ball’ style, and Como will fancy themselves on the opening day.

Como vs Lazio tip: Como to win & both teams to score
