Cameroon preview: Chaotic Cameroonians

Cameroon headed into the tournament in crisis with the unclear and disputed but eventually accepted sacking of Marc Brys, just weeks after their elimination from FIFA World Cup qualifying by the Democratic Republic of Congo in the playoffs.

In the group stages of this competition, though, Cameroon performed well to compete as strongly as defending champions the Ivory Coast, before producing a surprise 2-1 defeat of South Africa in the round of 16 in Rabat the other day.

Morocco preview: Pre-tournament favourites

With Walid Regragui at the helm, Morocco became the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup when they did so in Qatar in 2022 and the Atlas Lions are perhaps even stronger now, having been firm pre-tournament favourites for AFCON.

The Moroccans predictably eased through the group stages before a hard-fought 1-0 defeat of Tanzania the other day in the round of 16, courtesy of a 64th minute winner scored by Real Madrid attacker Brahim Diaz.

Cameroon team news: No Yongwa

Lorient defender Darlin Yongwa was forced off through injury against the South Africans, while his replacement, Mahamadou Nagida, is also a doubt due to fitness concerns.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Epassy; Wooh, Kotto, Tolo; Tchamadeu, Avom, Baleba, Nagida; Mbeumo, Loader; Kofane

Unavailable: Yongwa (Injured)

Questionable: Nagida (Fitness)

Morocco team news: Couple of injuries

Morocco are dealing with a couple of experienced absentees for this one as former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Romain Saiss is sidelined alongside Girona midfielder Azzedine Ounahi.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Bono; Hakimi, Aguerd, Masina, Mazraoui; El Khannouss, El Aynaoui, Saibari; Brahim Diaz, El Kaabi, Abde Ez

Unavailable: Saiss (Injured), Ounahi (Injured)

Questionable:

Cameroon vs Morocco prediction

Cameroon have discovered a formula that is working for them at the moment with an impressive and experienced core in their side, featuring the likes of Nouhou Tolo, Carlos Baleba and Bryan Mbeumo. Morocco, though, are a far more well grooved team with impressive cohesion for an international side in both defence and attack, and the Moroccans have to be viewed as the favourites for this one.

Cameroon vs Morocco tip: Morocco to win & both teams to score
