Cagliari have once again had a bit of change over the summer, with the Sardinians preparing to welcome a strong and potentially fun Fiorentina side this weekend.

Cagliari preview: Likely Sardinian struggles

Cagliari have spent the summer with some fairly underwhelming business, having just lost key man Nadir Zortea to Bologna, with the key arrivals being on loan, such as Michael Folorunsho, Luca Mazzitelli, Selim Kilicsoy and Sebastiano Esposito.

The Sardinians have replaced manager Davide Nicola, who is now in charge of Cremonese, with Fabio Pisacane, who is taking charge of his first ever managerial role, having played over 150 games for Cagliari between 2015 and 2021.

Fiorentina preview: UECL again

Fiorentina were runners’ up in the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2023 and 2024, and I Viola were then semi-finalists in 2025. They have got this season underway with a 3-0 hammering of Polissya Zhytomyr in the first-leg of their playoff round tie in midweek.

Fiorentina have swapped former Monza boss Raffaele Palladino for former AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli in the dugout. Pioli is a Serie A winning coach and he will believe he can help Fiorentina finally break through into UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Cagliari team news: Heading into the unknown

With a rookie coach in charge, it is unknown as to how Cagliari will line up, but it is believed that, studying at Coverciano, Pisacane prefers a 4-3-1-2 system.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Caprile; Deiola, Yerry Mina, Di Pardo; Zappa, Adopo, Prati, Gaetano, Idrissi; Zito Luvumbo, Piccoli

Unavailable:

Questionable: Obert (Injured), Luperto (Injured), Pavoletti (Injured)

Fiorentina team news: Europe could cause rotation

Fiorentina went strong in Europe in midweek, and so I Viola could make a few changes on the opening day of the campaign as they head across to the Sardegna Arena.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): David de Gea; Comuzzo, Pongracic, Ranieri; Dodo, Sohm, Fagioli, Gosens; Gudmundsson, Ndour; Kean

Unavailable: Kouame (Injured)

Questionable:

Cagliari vs Fiorentina prediction

Cagliari will be expecting to go through this season by being tight and neat at the back in order to be most effective. They were unconvincing in the first round of the Coppa Italia last weekend, as they required penalties to edge past Serie B side Virtus Entella in Sardinia. Fiorentina may well instead of rotating here, rotate in the second-leg of their playoff round tie that is already wrapped up and I Viola should be able to edge themselves through to victory this weekend.

Cagliari vs Fiorentina tip: Fiorentina to win & under 3.5 goals
