Burnley preview: Struggling Clarets

Scott Parker’s Burnley gained automatic promotion to the Premier League last season and they have started the campaign steadily as the Lancastrians now prepare to take on Everton at Turf Moor.

However, that steady start has given way to a predictably woeful run of form with a last-gasp 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth last weekend ending what was a seven-match losing streak.

Everton preview: Steady Toffees

In their first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, Everton have been steady at the start of this season as the Toffees begin the 18th match day of the campaign sitting tucked inside the top-half of the Premier League table.

The Evertonians have suffered back-to-back defeats ahead of this one, though, before Christmas, with a 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea before a 1-0 loss at home to league leaders Arsenal last weekend.

Burnley team news: Esteve a doubt

Key centre-back Maxime Esteve is racing to get fully fit for thids weekend, with Scott Parker having confirmed that he is 'running on the grass' but it is not dealing with a 'big injury'.

The Clarets remain without Hannibal Mejbri, who is away with Tunisia at thr CAF Africa Cup of Nations, which is the same for both Axel Tuanzebe and Lyle Foster.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Dubravka; Walker, Worrall, Esteve, Hartman; Laurent, Luis, Cullen; Anthony, Flemming, Tchaouna

Unavailable: Tuanzebe (International duty), Beyer (Injured), Roberts (Injured), Mejbri (International duty), Amdouni (Injured), Foster (International duty)

Questionable: Esteve (Injured)

Everton team news: Nothing fresh

It is a similar situation for Everton this week as was the case for last week but former Carlisle United centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite is edging his way back towards full fitness.

The Toffees remain without Senegal internationals Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye, while Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall remains unavailable due to a shoulder injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Pickford; O'Brien, Patterson, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Garner, Iroegbunam; Dibling, Alcaraz Grealish; Beto

Unavailable: Branthwaite (Fitness), Coleman (Injured), Gueye (International duty), Dewsbury-Hall (Injured), Ndiaye (International duty)

Questionable:

Burnley vs Everton prediction

Burnley, when in the Championship, managed to secure promotion with one of the most impressive defensive styles and records of any team. They face an Everton side that head across Lancashire with their own fairly functional style of football but the Toffees do have a lot more quality in the final third. Everton should come out on top at Turf Moor, but it is unlikely to be a thriller for the neutral.

Burnley vs Everton tip: Everton to win & under 3.5 goals
