Brighton preview: Frustrated Seagulls
Brighton and Hove Albion have begun the 2025/26 Premier League season with just one victory in their opening four matches so far this season, with that one win coming from behind against Manchester City at the AMEX Stadium a couple of weeks ago.
Having returned from the September international break, they come into this one on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last weekend, due to a 61st minute Antoine Semenyo winning penalty.
Tottenham preview: Getting used to winning
Tottenham Hotspur have begun a new era with the appointment of arch-pragmatist Thomas Frank replacing tactical ideologue Ange Postecoglou. Spurs have started the season well, too, and that continued in midweek.
Spurs managed to edge past Villarreal by a goal to nil in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, a few days after they had managed to defeat West Ham United by three goals to nil at the London Stadium.
Brighton team news: Left-back choices
Summer signing Maxim De Cuyper has avoided serious injury and could be available for this weekend but, in his pre-match press conference, Fabian Hurzeler suggested that Ferdi Kadioglu would be tasked with marking Mohammed Kudus.
The hosts remain without Adam Webster, Jack Hinshelwood and Solly March, but they do now have Mats Wieffer and Diego Gomez fully fit and available for the visit of Spurs.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Milner, Dunk, Van Hecke, Kadioglu; Ayari, Baleba; Minteh, Gruda, Mitoma; Rutter
Unavailable: Webster (Injured), Hinshelwood (Injured), March (Injured)
Questionable: De Cuyper (Injured)
Tottenham team news: Not yet for Solanke
After their win against Villarreal, Spurs coach Thomas Frank has confirmed that Dominic Solanke is 'back on the grass' and will be returning soon, but this weekend comes too soon.
They do have a few other longer term absentees, such as defender Radu Dragusin and attacking duo, England international James Maddison and Sweden international Dejan Kulusevski.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Bentancur, Sarr; Kudus, Bergvall, Johnson; Kolo Muani
Unavailable: Dragusin (Injured), Takai (Injured) Maddison (Injured), Kulusevski (Injured), Solanke (Fitness)
Questionable: Bissouma (Injured)
Brighton vs Tottenham prediction
The issue for Thomas Frank this season could be whether or not he is capable of dealing with the relentlessness of having to balance their Premier League and UEFA Champions League commitments. They face a Brighton side that, with their home advantage, have been able to topple Manchester City this season and their performances are better than results would suggest and so siding with Brighton at home would appear a reasonably good value bet for this one.
Brighton vs Tottenham tip: Double chance – Brighton to win or draw
