Ben Shelton vs Hubert Hurkacz prediction

Things were not looking good for Ben Shelton when he lost the first set 1-6 to Tallon Griekspoor in their first-round contest, but the American eighth seed won the next three sets to progress.

The 23-year-old, a semi-finalist at Flushing Meadows in 2023, generally enjoys the hard courts and successfully defended his ATP 1000-rated Canadian Open title in August.

He will now face Hubert Hurkacz for the first time, with the Pole having seen off the challenge of Damir Dzumhur in the first round (6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1).

Hurkacz is still working his way back to the level that took him to sixth in the world a couple of years ago, and there have been some positive signs lately, not least a Challenger Tour success in Cancun.

Shelton, though, is playing with a lot of confidence right now, and after an early wobble in the the first round, we expect him to play to his full potential here.
