Key stats

  • Belize’s first ever World Cup qualifying match was at home against Panama in June 1996 (L 1-2).
  • Belize have lost their last four World Cup qualifying matches.
  • Panama are unbeaten in the previous six matches between these teams (W4 D2). They won both of their World Cup qualifying encounters in the prelims for the 1998 finals (W 2-1 a, W 4-1 h).
  • Panama have won their last three World Cup qualifying matches.

Belize vs Panama prediction

Panama are one of two nations alongside Nicaragua, who successfully won their first two fixtures in Group D, but the latter are sat above Panama in the table due to their superior goal difference. With just five goals scored compared to Nicaragua’s eight, Panama may well be thinking of bumping that goal difference up against a side already eliminated.

Belize have lost three games from three and are the only team in Group D now out of top two contention with this being effectively a dead rubber from their perspective. They’ve scored just one goal, whilst giving up eight in comparison and it remains to be seen how motivated their squad will be heading into this encounter.

The quality of Panama is expected to shine through against such struggling opposition and any outcome other than victory for them would be seen as a shock and potentially a big blow for their qualification hopes depending on other results.
