Bayern Munich's most memorable cult heroes in the Champions League

In this article we focus on two of the biggest Champions League cult heroes over the course of Bayern Munich’s notable European history. Whether it be important goals or standout moments, we highlight those players responsible for some of the biggest moments across the Rekordmeister's Champions League history.
Oliver Khan
Whilst many Bayern Munich fans will understandably see Oliver Khan as far more than just a cult hero for his exploits at the club. The German goalkeeper's mannerisms and ability to perform on the biggest stage makes him someone well worth highlighting in this article.
The 2000-01 Champions League final saw Khan gain redemption after Bayern were beaten 2-1 against Man Utd in the 1998-99 final, a dramatic game which saw Man Utd come from behind to win 2-1 with two stoppage time goals against Khan in Barcelona. But it was a different story for Khan and Bayern vs Valencia in 2001.
After a 1-1 draw, the final went to a penalty shootout in which Khan starred, saving three penalties as Bayern triumphed 5-4 in the shootout. Khan's intense personality on the field, combined with his shot stopping abilities makes him a stand out cult hero for the German giants.
Kingsley Coman
The French winger's time at Bayern Munich was littered with trophies, but the achievement that really cemented Coman into the Bayern history books was him scoring the winning goal against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2020 Champions League final.
With the score goalless in the second half, Joshua Kimmich's cross into the box was nodded back across goal and into the corner of the net by Coman at the back post. That header proved to be what separated the two clubs and won Bayern a sixth Champions League title. Whilst Coman was never a superstar for the Rekordmeister, he had the knack of popping up with huge goals.
