Anna Blinkova notched up her first win against Moyuka Uchijma at the third attempt to progress to the next round in Hamburg. The 2024 champion, who also reached the final the following year, won 7-5 6-4 in just under two hours. A topsy turvy first set saw Blinkova go 3-1 down, only to reel off the next four games to serve for the set. She was unable to do so but still went in front after breaking in the 12th game. Blinkova also failed to serve it out in the second, but broke Uchijima's serve once more to win 7-5 6-4.
She will now face Noma Noha Akgue. She picked up her first tour-level main draw win since 2024 after overcoming wildcard Valentina Steiner in three sets. The German went a set down against her compatriot, but controlled the rest of the match to win 3-6 6-2 6-2.
Bondar leads the head-to-head 2-0. They faced each other in the first-round of this event last year, with the Hungarian winning a tight match on a deciding set tiebreak. This has the makings of another close encounter.
