Anna Blinkova suffered yet another early exit in Athens last week, losing her opening round match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich despite winning the first set. She has failed to advance beyond the second-round of a WTA tournament in 2026. Blinkova has lost 22 of her 38 matches this season, and her record on outdoor hard court is especially poor, with eight defeats from 10 encounters on the surface.
She takes on Sara Bejlek in round one. The Czech advanced to the quarter-finals of her home tournament last year. The highlight of her season is her victory at the Abu Dhabi Open, the first tour-level title of her career. Bejlek’s form then took a huge dip in terms of results, but she did progress to the last eight in Athens. Her run ended against Clara Tauson in straight sets.
With home support on her side, along with Blinkova’s poor record, it’s difficult to look past Bejlek for this one.
