Ann Li showed plenty of resilience in the second-round of the US Open, as she came from a set down to beat Donna Vekic. The American was pushed throughout a match in which neither player gave much away on serve, but Li held her nerve in the second set tiebreak before edging clear in the decider to win 5-7 7-6 (4) 6-4 after two hours and 44 minutes. She finished the match with eight aces and having saved eight of the 10 break points she faced. Li enjoyed a much more straight-forward opener, beating Antonia Ruzic 7-5 6-1.

She now faces Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova. The Czech continued her fine recent record at Grand Slams as she got past Lanlana Tararudee in straight sets. Noskova struck 25 winners and raced clear in the second to win 6-4 6-2 after one hour and 18 minutes. She has now won nine consecutive matches at majors, and 16 of her last 19 matches overall. 

Noskova leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a win in Dubai this year, but it was extremely competitive. Li has enough quality from the baseline to make this an uncomfortable match for the 21-year-old.
