Angers have started the season steadily as they seek to inflict further damage on to a Stade Rennais side that are now used to fairly humiliating underperformance.

Angers preview: Solid Angers

On the opening day of the campaign, Angers managed to see off newly-promoted Paris FC by a goal to nil at Stade Raymond Kopa, courtesy of a ninth minute Emanuel Lepaul strike, despite Louis Mouton being sent of for Angers in the 57th minute.

A week later, Angers, who gained promotion back to the top-flight in the 2023/24 campaign, managed to remain as steady and as difficult to beat last week, holding Paris Saint-Germain to just 1-0 scoreline in an even contest.

Rennes preview: Abysmal week for Rennes

Stade Rennais come into this one on the back of a 4-0 annihilation at the hands of newly-promoted Lorient last weekend. Rennes were down to nine men, staggeringly, in the opening 15 minutes of the match, before being hammered by the hosts.

That comes a week after they had had a man sent off against Olympique de Marseille, too, but they managed to edge past the southerners by a goal to nil, courtesy of a second-half stoppage-time winner scored by Ludovic Blas.

Angers team news: Fully fit

Angers have a fully fit and available squad for this weekend, so the hosts will be able name an unchanged eleven for the visit of Rennes if they so choose for this one.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Koffi; Arcus, Camara, Lefort; Raolisoa, Belkhdim, Courcoul, Belkelba, Ekomie; Lepaul, Cherif

Unavailable:

Questionable:

Rennes team news: Several suspensions

Abdelhamid Ait Boudal is still missing through suspension from his opening day red card, whilst Christopher Wooh and Mahdi Camara are now suspended after being sent off last weekend.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Samba; Faye, Jacquet, Rouault; Rongier, Rieder, Cisse, Fofana, Merlin; Blas, Meite

Unavailable: Ait Boudal (Suspended), Wooh (Suspended), Camara (Suspended)

Questionable: Brassier (Injured)

Angers vs Rennes prediction

Angers managed to stave off their relegation, under the management of Alexandre Dujeux, with a very defensive and low-scoring style of football last season. They face a Rennes side that will be heading their with Habib Beye under immediate pressure to try and turn things around for this one. Rennes will want to batten down the hatches once again this week, and a low-scoring encounter seems very likely for this one.

Angers vs Rennes tip: Under 2.5 goals
