Aliona Falei qualified for the Chennai Open as the top seed. The Belarusian defeated Ekaterina Yashina and Rada Zolotareva. The 22-year-old is ranked inside the top 200 of the world rankings and has won two lower-level titles. Falei attempted to qualify for Roland Garros and the US Open, but lost in the opening stages at both tournaments.

She faces Magda Linette in the first-round. Linette will be hoping for a strong end to the campaign after a frustrating 2026. She has advanced to a semi-final at the Libema Open and the last eight in Hobart and Auckland, but her form has tailed off in the second half of the season. The Pole has failed to win back-to-back matches on the tour since June. Her last tournament was in Guangzhou; she won her first-round match against Anastasia Zakharova before a straight sets defeat to Lilli Tagger.

Linette will be the clear favourite to come through with the victory against Falei in the first-round.
