Claire Liu vs Tatiana Prozorova prediction

Claire Liu was unable to reach a second successive semi-final at the Guangzhou Open, following a loss in the last eight to Sun Xinran. That was the 26-year-old’s best result on the WTA Tour this season. Another highlight was her impressive run from qualifying to the third-round of Wimbledon. Liu beat Hanne Vandewinkel and Zeynep Sonmez at SW19 before losing to two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff. She has also won two lower-level titles this year, and the 26-year-old is now ranked just outside the top 100.

Her first-round opponent is Tatian Prozorova in Hong Kong. The 23-year-old qualified for Guangzhou last week, losing to eventual champion Harriet Dart in the first-round after a three set battle. She responded by also qualifying for this tournament, and now has four wins from her last five matches overall.

Liu should be favoured to win this one, but she cannot afford a slow start against Prozorova.
