Janice Tjen vs Katherine Hui prediction

Janice Tjen is the defending champion at the Chennai Open, having beaten Kimberly Birrell in last year’s final. The 24-year-old has not reached the same heights in 2026, but she will be looking to end the season on a high with a second straight title at the event. Tjen’s wait for a first tour-level quarter-final of the season continued as she lost in the second-round of the Guangzhou Open to Harriet Dart. She has lost 29 of her 50 matches this season.

Her first-round opponent is Katherine Hui. The 21-year-old will be making her first tour-level appearance of the season. Her last event was in Queretaro, which resulted in a straight sets loss in the opening round to 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu.

Tjen is the overwhelming favourite to come through with the victory, but there will be pressure on her to perform at this event. A failure to defend her title is likely to see the Indonesian tumble down the rankings.
