Alexander Zverev vs Karen Khachanov prediction

Alexander Zverev ended Alexei Popyrin’s defence of his Canadian Open title with a three set victory in the quarter-finals. The first set went on serve, with Zverev missing out on two set points in the tie-break and Popyrin converting one of his own after a fortunate net cord went his way. The world number three regrouped well, winning five games in a row from 4-4 in the second set to win 6-7 6-4 6-3. He won 82% of his first serve points. Zverev is into the last four of this tournament for the first time since winning the title eight years ago.

He will go up against Karen Khachanov who continued his strong form with a straight sets win against Alex Michelsen. The Russian went an early break down but replied by breaking the Michelsen serve on two occasions to take the first set. The American was on the verge of forcing a decider as he broke at 5-5 to serve for the second but Khachanov broke back immediately and controlled the tiebreak to win 6-4 7-6. The 11th seed has been consistent over the past two months and is finding a way to win.

Zverev leads the head-to-head 5-2 and 3-1 on hard court. The world number three has won their last three matches on the surface without the drop of a set and is a commanding favourite to make the final of a Masters event for the first time this year.
