Lorenzo Musetti reached the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open after a straight sets win over Jaime Faria. The Italian conceded just the one break point as he won 7-5 6-2. Musetti’s season has been blighted by injury, but he seems to have regained some consistency during this North American hard court swing.
He now takes on Frances Tiafoe, as the 28-year-old produced a brilliant performance to beat second seed Felix Auger Aliassime. Tiafoe beat the Canadian on his way to the Halle Open title in June, and he repeated the feat with a 6-3 6-4 win. Auger Aliassime committed 37 unforced errors compared to Tiafoe’s 16. He progresses to his second Masters 1000 quarter-final of the season, following the Miami Open.
The head-to-head is locked at 3-3, but Tiafoe leads 2-1 on outdoor hard court. He has been the more convincing player at this event so far, and he has enough quality to get the job done here.
