Tommy Paul picked up his best win of the season so far as he came from a set down to beat top seed Alexander Zverev at the Cincinnati Open. The American saved a match point in the second set tiebreak and reeled off the last four games from 4-2 down in the decider to win 4-6 7-6 (6) 6-4 after two hours and 51 minutes. Paul now leads 3-1 in the head-to-head. He is into his second Masters 1000 quarter-final of the campaign, after the Miami Open.
He will now play Flavio Cobolli, who also recorded a comeback win. Cobolli beat Rafael Jodar in three sets to reach the last eight of a Masters tournament for just the second time in his career. Jodar has been one of the most in-form players of the North American hard court swing, but the seventh seed won 4-6 7-6 (3) 6-3.
Cobolli leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a win over Paul at this event two years ago. Paul will have home support on his side for this one, and he will be tough to stop if he replicates his performance from the previous round.
