28th seed Alexander Blockx made light work of Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera in the first round, defeating the Chilean 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Blockx was dominant on serve, landing ten aces and winning 83% of points behind his first serve.

It has been a breakthrough year for the young Belgian on the ATP Tour, and although his success has mostly been on clay, his first-round contest meant that he has made his debut in the main draw of all four Grand Slam tournaments in 2026.

Blockx will face another clay specialist in the form of Marco Trungelliti, who is enjoying a fine twilight to his career. The Argentine recovered from being bageled in the first set against Chinese talent Juncheng Shang before eventually coming through in five sets.

That is likely to have taken a fair bit out of the veteran, and against rising star Blockx, who should have plenty of energy in reserve, we think this should be fairly comfortable for the youngster.
