Alex Molcan vs Valentin Royer prediction
Alex Molcan was viewed as the underdog for his match with Daniel Altmaier in the first-round of Wimbledon, as Altmaier had advanced to the semi-finals of the Halle Open less than two weeks earlier. However, Molcan produced a brilliant display to win four sets after the match was completed across two days. He was then beaten by Jiri Lehecka in the next stage. His best result of the season on the ATP Tour so far was a semi-final appearance at the BMW Open.
He will face Valentin Royer in round one of the Croatia Open. The Frenchman also progressed to the second-round at the All England Club, before a loss to second seed Alexander Zverev. Royer then dropped down to compete on the Challenger Tour in Iasi, making it all the way to the last four before a defeat to Titouan Droguet. Royer has just one tour-level win all season.
Royer does have momentum on his side after that run, but Molcan has picked up some impressive results on clay this season and has enough quality to get through.
