Ajax preview: A poor Ajax with a chance

It has been yet another woeful campaign for Ajax, with Johnny Heitinga having been sacked and replaced by Fred Grim on an interim basis but, despite continued underperformance in the Eredivisie, Ajax have found a bit of form in Europe.

Last month, the Dutch giants managed to defeat Qarabag by four goals to two in the Azeri capital city of Baku before they managed to beat Villarreal by two goals to one at El Madrigal last week, courtesy of goals from Oscar Gloukh and Oliver Edvardsen.

Olympiacos preview: Tucked in the top 24

Olympiacos head into the final match day of the league phase of the UEFA Champions League sitting tucked inside the top 24 and the knockout playoff places, under the management of former Sevilla boss Jose Luis Mendilibar.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 win against Volos in the Greek Super League in their most recent outing, at the weekend. That means they have now suffered just one defeat in their last 11 matches across all competitions.

Ajax team news: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues for Ajax to deal with as former Watford attacker Steven Berguis is the only confirmed absentee.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Jaros; Gaaei, Bouwman, Baas, Wijndal; Klaassen, Regeer, Mokio; Gloukh, Dolberg, Godts

Unavailable: Tomiyasu (Injured), Ibrahimovic (Ineligible), Berghuis (Injured)

Questionable:

Olympiacos team news: A few injuries

Rodinei has returned to full fitness for Olympiacos but the visitors have a few other key injury absentees, such as Lorenzo Pirola and Andreas Paschalakis.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Tzolakis; Costinha, Retsos, Kalogeropoulos, Biancone; Mouzakitis, Hezze; Rodinei, Chiquinho, Martins; Taremi

Unavailable: Pirola (Injured), Bakoulas (Injured), Paschalakis (Injured), Ortega (Injured)

Ajax vs Olympiacos prediction

Ajax have found some form in the UEFA Champions League but they will need a lot of results to go in their favour in order to qualify for the top 24. They face an Olympiacos side that have been very effective in European competition when coached by Jose Luis Mendilibar. It should be quite a fun watch for the neutral in which both teams attack it and both teams may well therefore score.

Ajax vs Olympiacos Tip: Both teams to score
