How to watch online: UK – Cannot be streamed / US – ESPN+

Werder Bremen Preview: Looking for another strong reaction

Each of Werder Bremen’s last three league defeats has seen them respond excellently as a unit by winning the following game on each occasion. Cleary a strong culture has been forced inside their dressing room.

Defensively is where Werder have struggled of late, averaging two goals conceded per game across their most recent three matches and they’ll need to improve substantially in this department.

Stuttgart Preview: Three losses from four in all competitions

The statistics say it all for Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeness, whose side are down in ninth-place having won just one Bundesliga fixture in November so far. Obviously having to balance domestic commitments with the Champions League has proven difficult as you would expect.

A thumping 5-1 loss away at Crvena Zvezda in midweek was a third defeat in Stuttgart’s last four matches in all competitions, with two of those coming in the Champions League. Across those three losses, Hoeness’ men shipped a whopping ten goals.

Werder Bremen Team News: Topp only expected absentee

Ole Werner could have an almost fully fit squad to choose from if given good news pre-match regarding his three doubtful players. As it stands, only Keke Topp will definitely miss out with an ankle injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Zetterer; Veljkovic, Friedl, Jung; Weiser, Bittencourt, Lynen, Kohn; Grull, Ducksch, Schmid

Unavailable: Topp (Injured)

Questionable: Agu (Injured), Burke (Injured), Stage (Injured)

Stuttgart Team News: Leweling getting close, Undav missing

Ermedin Demirovic is expected to lead the line for the visitors in the absence of Deniz Undav, whilst Hoeness will hope that winger Jamie Leweling will be in a position to at least play some part in this game.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Nubel; Stergiou, Rouault, Chabot, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Vagnoman, Millot, Fuhrich; Demirovic

Unavailable: Raimund (Injured), Tourc (Injured), Undav (Injured), Zagadou (Injured)

Questionable: Al-Dakhil (Illness), Leweling (Injured)

Werder Bremen vs Stuttgart Prediction

With home advantage in their favour, expect Werder Bremen to push bodies forward whenever possible and really try and take the game to Stuttgart offensively, knowing how disappointing their backline have been of late. After a long journey in midweek and conceding five goals, this match serves as a big ask for the Stuttgart players physically, especially with how they like to play under Hoeness. Therefore, consider backing Werder Bremen to come out on top, albeit with both teams scoring, as the hosts are also questionable from a defensive perspective.

Werder Bremen vs Stuttgart Tip: Werder Bremen to win and both teams to score
