Craig Bellamy’s reign in charge of Wales has started well as they take on probably now the new ‘worst team in European international football’, Liechtenstein, at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Key Stats

  • Wales won the previous three matches between these teams without conceding a goal. They recorded a pair of 2-0 wins in the qualifying tournament for South Africa 2010 and won 4-0 at home in a friendly in 2006.
  • Wales are unbeaten in their last 11 World Cup qualifying matches (W7 D4).
  • Wales are unbeaten in their last seven World Cup qualifying matches at home (W5 D2).
  • Excluding penalty shoot-outs, Wales have lost only one of their last 18 international matches (W8 D9).
  • Liechtenstein have won just two of their previous 72 World Cup qualifying matches. Both of those wins came in the 2006 qualifiers against Luxembourg.

Wales vs Liechtenstein Prediction

In the first few months of Bellamy’s reign, Wales managed to gain automatic promotion to League A of the UEFA Nations League, edging past Turkey in their League B group. That has been backed up starting their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign by collecting four points from games against Kazakhstan and North Macedonia.

They face a Liechtenstein side that famously lost to San Marino in November and the visitors have sunk to becoming one of the worst teams in the world. Their 2-0 loss to Kazakhstan in March backed up a 3-0 hammering at the hands of North Macedonia to mean that they have managed just one win, against Hong Kong, in their last 47 matches.

Wales need near perfection in a group alongside Belgium so they will be expected to win this one comfortably against a poor Liechtenstein side in the Welsh capital.

Wales vs Liechtenstein Tip: Wales to win -1 handicap
