Velez Sarsfield have started their group stage with two victories and a defeat in their opening three matches as they sit top of Group H, just above Venezuelan side San Antonio Bulo Bulo on goal difference. The hosts were hammered 4-1 by River Plate at the weekend and they haven’t enjoyed back-to-back victories or suffered back-to-back losses since mid-March.
They now face an Olimpia side, though, that have collected just one point from their group stage campaign in continental competition this season. The Paraguayans did earn themselves a much-needed victory domestically at the weekend as they defeated Cerro Porteno by two goals to one away from home the other day.
Despite that impressive and much-needed win, Velez Sarsfield are firm favourites for this one and they should come out on top in this one, especially with their home advantage.
