Union Saint-Gilloise vs Club Brugge prediction

Having knocked on the door for a few years, an affiliate club of Brighton and Hove Albion, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, finally reclaimed the Belgian title for the first time since the 1934/35 season last year. Coached by former Brighton defender Sebastian Pocognoli, they will now seek to sustain that level of success this season.

They face arguably the biggest club in Belgium, alongside Anderlecht and Standard Liege, in Club Brugge. Coached by Nicky Hayen, the 19-time Belgian champions finished as runners’ up in the regular season of last year’s Belgian Jupiler Pro League, before then finishing second again in the end of season championship round.

They did end a ten-year drought in the Belgian Cup, though, with 2-1 defeat of Anderlecht in the final, and that sort of game is quite emblematic of a lot of Belgian club football, with both sides often creating and having a lot of chances so a fun Super Cup should be expected.
