Farman Hasanov: Explosive hometown prospect making his UFC debut
Farman Hasanov (5-0) arrives in the UFC early into his career, having won all five of his professional bouts by stoppage but one. “The Lion” is a freakish athlete with serious physicality, though his game remains unrefined, he’s an aggressive, high-pace shoot-boxer who hunts for the head with heavy bombs, backed by a powerful double-leg and a punishing ground and pound game. We’ve not seen too much of him, but in front of his home crowd, expect a confident, fast start.
Eric Nolan: Battle-tested underdog who’s better than his record suggest
Eric Nolan (8-4) looks better than that record suggests. The former CFFC champion took his UFC debut on short notice and up a weight class against Chimaev’s teammate – the prospect Baisangur Susurkaev, and did alright, hurting him on the feet and arguably winning the first round before getting caught in a second round rear-naked. Now back at welterweight with a full camp behind him, the sharp-boxing American brings the better technique and the deeper experience.
Farman Hasanov vs Eric Nolan prediction
Hasanov is the far more physical man and very dangerous early, with the crowd roaring him on, expect him to come flying out of the gate looking to overwhelm Nolan, swinging for the head and threatening the takedown. If he’s able to land clean or drag Nolan to the mat, his top game is nasty enough to end the night early.
The case for Nolan is about survival and accumulation. He’s already shown he can weather the first round against a feared finisher, he did that against Susurkaev, and if he gets through the first give minutes without absorbing too much damage, the picture starts to shift. Hasanov’s output can dip when the early finish doesn’t come, and his defensive holes gives a composed and cleaner boxer in Nolan to be able to pick him apart. Nolan won’t have the power to put Hasanov away, but he doesn’t need to, if he can stay off the fence and avoid the takedown, he has the chance of outpointing the debutant and bank the second half of the fight. At underdog odds, the bookies are bracing for an early Hasanov finish, but should this go late, I think we’ll start to see the American outwork him late. Give me Nolan to fraud check.
Prediction: Eric Nolan to win by decision
