Cody Gibson: Experienced underdog looking to turn back the clock
Cody Gibson (21-11) returns to the Octagon at 38 years of age, still eager to prove he belongs among the UFC’s roster. The American veteran holds a 3-6 record in the promotion, most recently suffering a submission loss to Da’Mon Blackshear earlier this year. Before that setback, Gibson had been building some momentum, stringing together victories over Chad Anheliger (unanimous decision) and Brian Kelleher (submission).

Despite his experience, Gibson’s career has often been defined by inconsistency and questionable decision-making. In his fight with Blackshear, he was enjoying success on the feet before a poorly timed takedown attempt led to his downfall. Technically, he has solid hands and a willingness to engage in a firefight, but his fight IQ has let him down in crucial moments. Still, Gibson’s toughness, experience, and willingness to trade make him a solid opponent for anyone not at their sharpest.

Aoriqileng: The Mongolian Murderer hunting for redemption
Aoriqileng (25-12) – nicknamed “The Mongolian Murderer” – is a fan favourite for his aggressive, forward-pressure style. The 32-year-old from Inner Mongolia, China, owns a 3-4 UFC record and enters this bout looking to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Raul Rosas Jr. in September 2024. That defeat followed a no contest against Daniel Marcos, though he previously scored an impressive decision victory over Johnny Munoz Jr.

Like Gibson, Aoriqileng is prone to lapses in judgement inside the cage. He’s a solid striker with respectable volume but lacks the elite power and precision to truly threaten higher-level opponents. While his aggression can overwhelm less experienced fighters, his tendency to initiate unnecessary grappling exchanges or level changes often costs him control of the fight. Technically sound but unspectacular, Aoriqileng is more of a grinder than a finisher at this stage of his career.

Aoriqileng vs Cody Gibson prediction
This matchup feels evenly poised between two fighters who share both strengths and flaws. Each is capable of winning rounds with volume and pressure, but neither possesses the consistent power or precision to produce an emphatic finish. Both men have seen many decisions throughout their careers and tend to see the scorecards in closely contested bouts.

Expect a competitive striking affair, with moments of success for both but little to separate them when the final horn sounds. Given their shared durability and tendency to rely on output over impact, the safest expectation is a full three-round fight.

Prediction: Fight to go the distance
