King Green: The fan favourite veteran looks to score his fourth successive victory in a bad blood match up
Currently riding a three fight win streak after going 2-3 with three brutal stoppage losses, King Green (34-17-1, 1 NC) has been enjoying one of the more unlikely career resurgences in recent memory. Mauricio Ruffy looked to have wheel kicked the man formerly known as “Bobby” into retirement, but Green has rebounded in emphatic fashion, scoring a trio of victories with finishes in his two most recent fights. While his recent success comes with the asterisk that his competition hasn’t been of the highest order, it’s still been a treat to watch the Green of old return, snapping off lightning fast combinations with his hands at his waist as he relentlessly trash talks the man in front of him.
Terrance McKinney: Will "T-Wrecks" score a ferocious finish or go out on his shield attempting to do so?
Arguably the most quintessential “kill or be killed” fighter in UFC history, there’s a reason that Terrance McKinney (18-8) hasn’t been to the scorecards in thirteen UFC fights. A notoriously fast starter, “T-Wrecks” throws the kitchen sink at his opponents in the early goings, hurling bombs until his opponent drops out cold or hurt badly enough for him to lock up a submission. Unfortunately for McKinney, if he’s unable to win in the early goings, he’s invariably ended up being finished himself, with his cardio and resolve falling off a cliff. A heavy-handed striker, McKinney is also known for possessing underrated wrestling ability, something that has allowed him to score submissions or GNP TKOs on more than one occasion.
King Green vs Terrance McKinney prediction
It’s highly unlikely that the judges are going to be needed here.
McKinney is incredibly dangerous in the early goings, but if he doesn’t score the early stoppage, it’s a virtual certainty that he’s going to get finished himself. “T-Wrecks” completely falls apart when he can’t get the finish, so if that fight lasts longer than 90 seconds, I see Green leaning on his speed to piece him up and score a TKO once he gasses.
The question here is whether Green can survive the early onslaught from “T-Wrecks.” “King’s” chin has visibly deteriorated in the wake of some absolutely brutal KO losses, and there’s a solid chance that McKinney comes out the gates like a bat out of hell and just bombs Green out cold in the open during the early goings.
With that being said, Green has been put on a highlight reel so many times that it’s easy to distract from the fact that he largely only loses to top level opposition or exceedingly dangerous finishers. You could argue that McKinney falls into the latter category, but he’s finishing the likes of Kyle Nelson and Viacheslav Borschev; he hasn’t scored an impressive stoppage since submitting a baby-faced Fares Ziam all the way back in 2022.
This take is going to age like milk if McKinney lands clean and nukes Green during the opening exchanges, but we’re going with “King” as a slight underdog here. Green leans on his head movement and footwork to avoid the early haymakers, peppering a flagging McKinney with combinations for the TKO.
Prediction: King Green to win by first round TKO
