Luke Riley: The Scouse KO artist looks to add another highlight to an already extensive reel
Victorious via decision in his UFC debut against Dakota Hope in April, Kai Kamaka III (18-7-1) looks to score his second successive victory in his second stint with the promotion. A well-rounded veteran, “Da Fighting Hawaiian” has a wealth of experience fighting in various promotions on the regional circuit, with stints in Bellator and the PFL to round off a solid resume. Kamaka hasn’t been finished since a TKO defeat back in 2020 and has been in there with some excellent levels of competition to boot, a state of affairs underlined by the fact that he took PFL standout, Brendan Loughnane, to a split decision back in 2024.
Kai Kamaka III: Can the grizzled Hawaiian play spoiler and take Riley's "0?"
Touted as the next big prospect of Liverpool’s renowned Next Gen gym, it’s been a slightly shaky start to life in the promotion for Luke Riley (13-0). Signed to the UFC with a reputation as an iron chinned KO artist with a penchant for exciting brawls, the undefeated Scouser eventually flatlined Bogdan Grad in his UFC debut, but gave cause for concern after being soundly outgrappled in the first round. His sophomore appearance saw him take the co-main event spot on the latest UFC London card, where he earned a clear, but unconvincing victory over Michael Aswell Jr., in a bout where he was favoured by many to score another impressive KO.
Luke Riley vs Kai Kamaka III prediction
Kamaka is a tricky test for the Scouse prospect. He’s a seasoned, well-rounded veteran with a wealth of experience fighting in some of the best promotions in the world throughout his career.
With that being said, I don’t think that he’s going to be the man to take Riley’s “0.” Kamaka is no scrub on the feet, but Riley looks to have a significant edge in terms of striking acumen, particularly with his footwork and in the boxing. He struggled a bit with Michael Aswell Jr during exchanges in the pocket in his last fight, but Kamaka tends to strike at range; something that has historically played into Riley’s style extremely well.
Bogdan Grad had early success against the Next Gen prospect in the wrestling department, but Riley was still able to find the KO after a shaky first round. Furthermore, even prior to the Grad fight, the Scouser had a history of giving up early takedowns and still finding a brutal KO as the fight progressed. Kamaka is not known for being a smothering grappler and I don’t envision him being able to blanket Riley for three rounds.
“Da Fighting Hawaiian” is tough and Riley’s inability to KO Aswell Jr last time out indicates that this is likely to go all three rounds. A Riley KO wouldn’t come as a huge surprise given his exceptional talent in the boxing department, but he looks a reasonably safe bet to get his hand raised regardless of the channel of victory.
Prediction: Luke Riley to win
