King Green: Slick boxing veteran riding a two-fight win streak into Newark

King Green (34-17-1, 1 NC), formerly known as Bobby Green, opens up the UFC 328 main card on a two-fight win streak after a TKO over Daniel Zellhuber this February and a split decision over Lance Gibson Jr. Those came on the back of consecutive stoppage losses to Ruffy and Paddy, but Green bounced back in style. The 39-year-old still moves beautifully on the feet, fights hands-down, and lands sharp. The Zellhuber performance proved he still has the speed and pop to torch the youngers. His one liability is the same one he’s always had – he can be caught with a clean shot.

Jeremy Stephens: “Hardest hitting 145-pounder” returns to the octagon for his second UFC comeback

Jeremy Stephens (29-22, 1 NC) makes his way back to the UFC after dropping a hard-fought decision to Mason Jones last May, his first UFC appearance in years. Stephens holds the second UFC record for most knockdowns landed. The Mason Jones fight aged finely after Jones went on to finish Bolaji Oki and beat the French prospect Axel Sola. His power remains real, any clean shot from Stephens can end a night early.

King Green vs Jeremy Stephens prediction

This is a tough one to call. Green will box up Stephens for most of this fight, the question is whether a big shot will land to flip everything on its head. Green either pieces his opponents up, or does it until he’s caught with something clean. Stephens’ best chance is to make this fight ugly, drag Green into exchanges, and find that power shot. Green’s hands-down style invites that risk, but he’s also seen 50+ pro fights and figured most of them out.

The realistic outcomes are narrow, Green outpoints Stephens on the feet using his speed, footwork, and counters, or Stephens lands clean and ends it. Green almost certainly isn’t going to wrestle for the points, and a finish for Green himself feels unlikely given Stephens’ chin and durability. With that in mind, the smart play is the Decision No Bet line on Stephens – the bet is void if it goes the distance, and pays out if Stephens finds the finish.

Prediction: Decision No Bet, Jeremy Stephens
