Pat Sabatini: Can the American add to his three fight win streak?

Widely regarded as one of the best pure grapplers at 145 pounds, Pat Sabatini (21-5) has gone 8-2 in the promotion since making his debut all the way back in 2021. With thirteen submissions to his name, it’s no secret where Sabatini wants the action in his fights. While he’s slightly undersized for the division, you wouldn’t know it from his suffocating control ability on the ground, although he has been overpowered by larger fighters in most of his defeats. He’s currently riding a three fight win streak, most recently besting Chepe Mariscal at UFC 322.

William Gomis: Will "Jaguar" come out on top in his first bout of 2026?

Posting an impressive 5-1 record since joining the promotion in 2022, it's hard to pinpoint why William Gomis (15-3) hasn't managed to produce any meaningful momentum in the promotion. An elusive striker with superb movement and range management, the primary knock against Gomis is his lack of stopping power; while "Jaguar" joined the promotion with a near 80% finishing rate, he's only earned a stoppage in one of his UFC bouts to date. His sole loss under the UFC banner to Hyder Amil also slowed his roll, although many argued that he was unlucky to find himself on the wrong end of a split decision in that match up.

Pat Sabatini vs William Gomis prediction

This one is likely going to go one of two ways. Gomis either leans on his polished striking acumen to produce a convincing shut out on the feet, or Sabatini grounds the Frenchman and works a grappling clinic.

Of the two outcomes, the latter would appear to be more likely. Sabatini might not have the most exciting style in the world, but he’s still one of the best grapplers in the entire division and has arguably faced stiffer levels of competition than Gomis. Furthermore, the American has only ever lost to fighters who have been able to overwhelm him in the early goings and score an early KO.

Gomis is an excellent striker, but he hasn’t proved to be much of a knockout threat throughout his time in the promotion. The Frenchman’s only finish in six UFC fights came via body kick TKO over Yanis Ghemmouri back in 2023, meaning that it’s far from a certainty that he lands a fight ending blow in the early goings here.

Sabatini is arguably the best grappler that Gomis has ever faced by some distance, meaning that the Frenchman’s takedown defense of rate of 38% bodes ill. Notwithstanding a shock KO in the opening minutes, the American looks to be a safe bet to lean on his grappling to earn the decision win.

Prediction: Pat Sabatini to win by decision
