Baisangur Susurkaev: Can "Hunter" push his promotional record to 3-0?

Stablemate of current middleweight champion, Khamzat Chimaev, Baisangur Susurkaev (11-0) looks for his third straight UFC victory and finish come Saturday night. Credited with the fastest turnaround between fights in UFC history and boasting a 90% finish rate, the well-rounded Susurkaev is one of the more exciting prospects at 185 pounds, particularly considering that he’s still only 25 years old. However, he has been prone to lapses in fight IQ and concentration throughout his run to date, raising questions as to how he’ll handle a step up to ranked level competition.

Djorden Santos: Can "Shakur" prove the oddsmakers wrong as a massive underdog?

Earning a UFC contract with a decision victory as an underdog against Will Currie on the Contender Series, Djorden Santos (11-2) will make his third appearance in the promotion on Saturday night. "Shakur" is 1-1 in the promotion to date, dropping his debut to Ozzy Diaz in a fun brawl before rebounding with a victory over Danny Barlow last October. While the ATT man possesses a well-rounded skillset and comes to fight every time, he's had difficulties finding a finish as he's faced better levels of competition; while he's also never been finished himself, Santos hasn't earned a stoppage victory since 2021.

Baisangur Susurkaev vs Djorden Santos prediction

Susurkaev’s penchant for smack talk and fighting with very little regard to his defense means that he’s likely going to end up on the wrong end of a “trash talking gone wrong” edit in the near future. However, Saturday is unlikely to be that day.

Santos may be dangerous in his own right, but let us not forget that the man is one fight removed from losing a decision to Ozzy Diaz; the same Ozzy Diaz currently standing as a +675 underdog to Ateba Gautier. Even if he wasn’t on the wrong end of a significant height and reach discrepancy, “Shakur” likes to do the majority of his work in the pocket. Considering that Susurkaev prefers to fight on the outside, it’s easy to envision “Hunter” quickly racking up points on the feet, pinging the Brazilian at range as he attempts to close the distance.

While his fight IQ leaves a lot to be desired, Susurkaev is so well-rounded that it’s likely going to take a prolific finisher to solve the puzzle he poses. As alluded to, Santos is undoubtedly a marauder, but he hasn’t proven to be much of a finisher; the Brazilian hasn’t earned a stoppage since he stopped the 6-13 Daniel Chicao more than five years ago.

Accordingly, I like Susurkaev to produce a performance in line with what we’ve seen from him so far; enduring some shaky moments in the early goings to eventually find a KO or submission. Santos has never been stopped and could well survive to see a decision, but the pick is still "Hunter" by finish.

Prediction: Baysangur Susurkaev to win by stoppage
