THE PREDICTION

16-year-old Darwin Blanch received a wildcard to make his ATP draw debut here at the Miami Open and he will be backed raucously to the hilt as a Florida native with he hopes of US tennis on his shoulders. The teenager has struggled to make a dent on recent ITF events but his runs to the semi-finals of both the Roland-Garros and Wimbledon junior events depicts a player hungry to impress on the big stage and he should do so here in the biggest match of his life. 23-year-old Tomas Machac is likely to have too much for Blanch as he brings a career-high ATP world ranking of 60th into the draw but the Czech has struggled to find his top, and improving, level in recent months to leave the door slightly ajar. Machac should have too much power in his groundstrokes to suffer an upset against Blanch’s raw talents but it would not be a surprise at all to see the teenager empowered enough to snatch a set. Consider that option or take the sensible route with an outright call for Machac.

TIP: TOMAS MACHAC TO WIN
