THE PREDICTION

World number 42 Roman Safiullin beat Dan Evans in three sets on Thursday to avenge a defeat to the Brit at the Los Cabos two weeks ago. The 26-year-old reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last summer to finally show some of the promise he exhibited as a junior and he finished runner-up to Alexander Zverev at the Chengdu Open in September, from a set up, to suggest he can claim a first trophy in 2024. World number 29 Sebastian Korda reached the quarter-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships before having to retire injured against Andrey Rublev. The 23-year-old reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open last season but he struggled to regain his former level after suffering an injury there, with results this year far from what he is capable of at his elusive best. This is a tougher fixture to call than first appears so back Safiullin, with a win his legs, to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
