THE PREDICTION

World number 67 Petra Martic impressed in a straight-sets defeat by a resurgent Naomi Osaka this week in Doha but she has struggled to make a dent so far this season. The 31-year-old is at her best on clay but she has an excellent, disruptive game for all surfaces and she looks the slight favourite in this first encounter with Caroline Dolehide despite her lower ranking. World number 44 Dolehide produced a stunning run to the Guadalajara Masters final last September to supercharge her ranking but she has struggled to reach that level since. The 25-year-old lost competitively to Marta Kostyuk in Doha last weekend to see just two wins so far this season, her last coming a month ago at the Australian Open. Martic should be coming through this in straight sets but take an outright win for caution’s sake.

TIP: PETRA MARTIC TO WIN
