THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Magdalena Frech will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 42nd after an excellent three-set victory over Petra Martic backed-up her upset over Ekaterina Alexandrova on Sunday. The Pole has enjoyed a steady rise up the rankings since finding some solid form on grass last summer and emulating her run to the last 16 at the Australian Open last month here in Dubai suggests she is in for her best year by far in 2024. This should be the end of the road this campaign, though, against world number four Elena Rybakina, who finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek at the Qatar Masters on Saturday. The 24-year-old dropped the first set of her opening match to Victoria Azarenka on Tuesday, taking the second before her opponent was forced to retire injured, but she should be much improved for an early scare. The Kazakh is more fragile than two WTA titles won already this season would suggest but she can be backed to come through in straight sets here.

TIP: ELENA RYBAKINA TO WIN 2-0
