World number 13 Belinda Bencic is through to the third round of the US Open with little fuss after straight-set wins over Kamilla Rakhimova and Yuriko Miyazaki but this should be her toughest test yet. World number 44 Lin Zhu has found the form of her career on hardcourts this season to claim a maiden WTA title at the Hua Hin Championships in February soon after a run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open and the Chinese avenged her defeat in Melbourne on Wednesday with an impressive straight-sets victory over Victoria Azarenka. Bencic beat Zhu as a teenage prodigy at the Tianjin Open in 2014 and she looks the solid favourite nine years on. Lin Zhu’s efforts so far warrant enough caution to take Bencic to win outright inside an accumulator but the Swiss should have enough in these conditions, as a former semi-finalist here in 2019, to come through in two.
