THE PREDICTION

22-year-old Emma Navarro brings a career-high WTA world ranking of 23rd into Indian Wells with the hopes of a deep run not unfounded as she continues to enjoy the form of her life so far. The American won her maiden WTA title at the Hobart International in January to cap off an excellent few months on the late hardcourt swing last year, including a run to the semi-finals of the Guadalajara Masters, and she reached the semi-finals in San Diego last week before coming unstuck against eventual champion Katie Boulter.

World number 37 Lesia Tsurenko conceded just four games to Liv Hovde to bounce back from also losing to Boulter in the first round last week in San Diego but the 34-year-old has struggled to make any serious dents on tour this season. Tsurenko has enjoyed some excellent results over the last few years but most of her best efforts have come on the natural surfaces, whilst Navarro looks well-suited to a scrap in these conditions. Back the home hopeful to enjoy the occasion in front of a partisan crowd to win outright.

TIP: EMMA NAVARRO TO WIN
