22-year-old Lulu Sun will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 151st after taking the first set from Paula Badosa on Monday before her opponent was forced to retire injured. The Swiss came in hot from victory at an ITF event in Sunderland on Sunday, making a win the next day on a different continent hugely impressive indeed, but this looks like the end of the ride against in-form world number nine Jelena Ostapenko. 26-year-old Ostapenko has lost just three times this season but all three of those defeats have come against Victoria Azarenka, to whom she lost poorly last week in Doha. Otherwise, the Latvian boasts two WTA titles this season already from Adelaide and Linz and she should be a factor in this tournament until the latter stages – with a potential clash with Azarenka not due until the semi-finals. Back Ostapenko to win in straight sets.
